What are the most popular window styles?

Available in a variety of materials, we offer six of the most popular window styles around;

  • Casement windows: Typically hinged at the side and opening outwards, casement windows feature profiles that stand proud and slightly overlap the frame.
  • Flush sash windows: Designed to replicate the classic ‘equal sightlines’ of authentic wooden frames, flush sash windows sit flush (flat) to the frame.
  • Sliding sash windows: Also known as vertical sliders, sliding sash windows feature one or two moving panels that slide up and down independently of one another. Classic sliding sashes use traditional cord and weight style systems to slide the panels open and shut, whilst modern sliding sash windows have smooth semi-concealed spiral balance mechanisms.
  • Tilt and turn windows: Tilt and turn windows use innovative dual-opening mechanisms for the best of both worlds. Tilt inwards for burglar-proof ventilation or turn the handle to open the window fully inwards.
  • Bay windows: Bay windows are angular in shape and centre around an angular 'picture window' with two (usually smaller) windows framing it on each side.
  • Bow windows: Bow windows tend to be wider than bay windows, typically with 4 to 6 windows that create a curved shape.

We also install energy-saving window styles via our uPVC envirowindow® range, exclusively designed to maximise thermal performance.

What is the most secure window style?

It's often thought that casement windows are the most secure window style, due to the fact there's no way to open them from the outside. However, all our window styles combine robust locking hardware with the latest multi-point locking hardware to achieve the highest levels of window security around.

What is the difference between a bay window and a bow window?

The main differences are the number of windows used and their overall shape. Basically, bay windows provide symmetrical panoramic views, typically featuring 3 windows installed at either 15, 30, or 45 degrees. Whereas bow windows are curved, featuring 4 to 6 windows fitted at an angle of 10 degrees.
